Montezuma Castle & Sedona

Montezuma-Castle-10-1129-12Montezuma-Castle-10-1129-03I’ve been looking forward to this for ages. My parents had been to Arizona several times before but had never visited the north of the state. We decided to put that right. It was time for a road trip…

Day One saw us heading north on I-10, past Phoenix on I-17 and onto the Kaibab Plateau. Our first stop was the impressive Montezuma Castle, a 1,000-year-old cliff dwelling near Camp Verde. Beautifully preserved and presented, this is a quick and easy place to visit and well worth the short diversion from our route.

Moving on, as one does on a road trip, we continued north and soon hit the lovely Sedona area, with its red rocks. We took various 4×4 roads and got excellent scenic views, culminating in the low light at sunset illuminating Cathedral Rock beautifully. We checked in at the Best Western Arroyo Roble hotel and ended the day enjoying a huge meal at the Cowboy Club steakhouse 😀
