The title is a cricket analogy that most of my American friends won’t understand, but it signals another new yard bird and what promises to be a long time stuck in the 90s. Yard bird #90 was one I thought I’d seen about a month ago but, with my resident Ash-throated Flycatchers always around, I couldn’t quite confirm. Today, however, I got a good, diagnostic view of a BROWN-CRESTED FLYCATCHER.
The aforementioned ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHERS are still busily attending their nest in the bluebird box. A female HOODED ORIOLE was also a welcome visitor. The BLUE GROSBEAK count is now up to three, an adult male and two immature males. I still haven’t seen a female this year but they can’t be far behind.
