Really nice morning of birding at Patagonia Lake State Park, with 72 species in all.
The highlights were:
BLACK-CAPPED GNATCATCHER just east of where the creek flows into the lake at the eastern end
Fairly late WARBLING VIREO and SUMMER TANAGER, two HEPATIC TANAGERS, COMMON GROUND-DOVE, two DUSKY FLYCATCHERS, two BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLERS, LAZULI BUNTING, all along the creek at the eastern end
On the water, WESTERN GREBE and three BUFFLEHEADS
WILSON’S SNIPE and a couple of AMERICAN PIPITS on the shore at the eastern end
RUFOUS-WINGED SPARROW near the trailhead, NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW overhead
Seeing as I’ll be without my camera for a while, I spent some time practicing digiscoping small birds using my phone and old spotting scope.
