Tags: Another great field trip for the Southwest Wings Birding Festival in Sierra Vista. Today’s tour was ‘The Huachuca Mountains’, so we opted to visit Huachuca Canyon in the morning, which proved to be an excellent choice, and the wonderful Ash Canyon B&B in the afternoon, which is always a good choice. We tallied an impressive 82 species with several memorable moments.

I accompanied David Bradford and Brandon Percival and their group from Houston, in a quest to find night birds at California Gulch, the Buff-collared Nightjar being the main target. I had the pleasure of leading a really nice field trip for the excellent Southwest Wings Birding Festival in Sierra Vista. We visited the Sierra Vista Environmental Operations Park (sewage ponds), Escapule Wash and San Pedro House, finding 75 species. Another evening session at California Gulch proved successful, with more views of Buff-collared Nightjar and a good supporting cast. |
