Another New Yard Bird

My yard list continues to creep towards 100, with another new addition today. This isn’t one that I really expected, but they can and do turn up in odd places on migration from time to time, so there was always an outside chance.

Looking out of my kitchen window I noticed a small bird foraging in a flower border I’ve created. It looked interesting so I fetched the binoculars, but I couldn’t see it when I returned. A few moments later, the bird burst from the cover of the flowers and revealed its identity when it perched for a few seconds in a sweet acacia tree, the first tree I planted when I arrived here, and the only one that has really assumed tree-like proportions so far.

It was a smart MacGILLIVRAY’S WARBLER, yard bird #98. The fact that it was utilizing the habitat I’d created in my yard was very satisfying.
