June 18th, 2016  Tags: guiding, nogales, patagonia, patagonia lake, paton center, rarities, santa ritas, se az birding June 13th, 2016 Tags: atascosa/pajarito, california gulch, guiding, night birding, pena blanca canyon, ruby rd, se az birding A night birding and photography trip to California Gulch with a difference, starting in Rio Rico at 2:40 a.m. and sampling the pre-dawn action in the gulch. We had mixed results, but on the whole it was very good. I finally got my chance to go for a super rarity, a PINE FLYCATCHER that was found and expertly identified by Dave Stejskal a couple of weeks previously. Pending acceptance by the relative authorities, this is the first record of this species in the USA. A successful evening jaunt to California Gulch for night birds, and plenty more besides. |
