An epic day of driving and birding, looping around from Sierra Vista, through Bisbee and Douglas, into New Mexico, up to the wonderful Portal, over the top of the Chiricahua Mountains, back down the other side, across the Sulphur Springs Valley, and back to Sierra Vista via a quick stop for sightseeing and dinner in Tombstone. Phew! But it was worth it…

January 24th, 2015  Tags: chiricahuas, guiding, rarities, se az birding, sulphur springs valley, whitewater draw A big day, driving from Sierra Vista to Portal and Paradise in the Chiricahuas, then back over the mountains and into the Sulphur Springs Valley, ending at Whitewater Draw at dusk. Lots of miles and lots of highlights among 71 species. A difficult day of dodging rain and hail showers in the Chiricahuas. Somehow, we still managed 71 species. The tour continued, from Hereford to Portal, via Whitewater Draw. 89 species in all. |
