I was excited about the prospect of seeing quail-doves in Cuba. There are four species available, two of which are endemic to Cuba, and after a lot of searching we finally found all four. Depending on which list you follow and how you view recent splits, there are 29 species that can be found on the archipelago of Cuba and nowhere else. We found 27 of them during our 12 day tour. As well as seeing nearly all of the endemic birds of Cuba, we saw several that are almost endemic, being found in only one or two other locations. |
