Last April I went out with David Chapman to do a ‘big day’, seeing and hearing as many species as possible in one day. We ended on 144 species, which was pretty good. Could we beat it this year? The weather forecast said no – it was going to be very windy, especially in the afternoon. Undeterred, we went for it anyway…

We also took in Amado Pond, Green Valley and Florida Canyon for an impressive day list of 88 species. April 4th, 2016 Tags: ash canyon, guiding, huachucas, las cienegas, mammals, patagonia, paton center, ramsey canyon, rio rico, se az birding We found 69 bird species today between the Huachuca Mountains, Las Cienegas and Patagonia, but the mammals really stole the show. I took lots of photos! Today was a lot of fun because it was partly about finding birds, but mostly about having an adventure and exploring remote, quiet places. Starting and ending in Rio Rico, we took a circular route through the Patagonia Mountains, San Rafael Valley, Canelo Hills, Las Cienegas, and Box Canyon. |
